Beginner Spanish
The weight is an appropriate size. This is the textbook that I used in my high school and I remember covering nearly all of the material in the textbook. So many other heavier textbooks contain so much extraneous material but the procession of the material in this text is logically planned. The text also comes with audio activities for the students.
Internet Sites: www.rosettastone.com http://www.storyplace.org/sp/storyplace.asp http://www.spanishdict.com/
Spanish is probably one of the few subjects that I could honestly go without the use of a textbook. So much information can be found online about this content. My only drawback is that in order for students to really comprehend the material, they will have to be extremely organized with their notes in order to see the procession of grammar. Nearly all beginner-level Spanish classes are taught the same way and students need to see the connection and process of moving from basic vocabulary to more advanced.
The reasons why I think that the Internet could possibly be used is because as long as students are supplied with visuals, they are much more likely to grasp the language; if the activities are interactive online, all the better!

Publisher: Holt Spanish Author: Holt, Rinehart and Winston Price: $96.50 (Amazon) More: Paperback, lightweight, Level 1/middle school 1. Description: This Spanish book covers many aspects of everyday life to learn the Spanish language. Each unit is structured with four detailed daily lesson plans, a vocabulary list, a review and assessment page and a two-page written assessment instrument. Also, each page is available to rip out as needed. 2. Related and Replacement Sites: a. http://www.rosettastone.com This website is simply an overview of the product and where you can purchase it, but the product is dvds that include interactive tutors, audio and website resources available to the customer. b. http://www.bookslibros.com/SpanishForNinos.htm This website uses songs to help learn grammar, common phrases and such for kids. c. http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-learn-Spanish-the-Fun-Way-95561104 This website contains different videos that are to help kids learn Spanish “the fun way!” 3. Reflections and Thoughts: The website I have found to replace the book have been pretty useful and could be used in the classroom, except buying interactive videos and audio could probably be left out since the book already comes with these materials. Songs and videos are always helpful to use in the classroom because they are fun and keep kids interested in the work, so to me the last two websites are the most useful and realistic to use. 4. Information: This book is designed for a 12th grade French class. It is a paperback book and about 7 inches by 9 inches. It is very lightweight and only weighs a few pounds.
1. Description: This French book is designed for upper level language learners. It focuses on French literature from the 20th century. It includes a wide range of poems, stories, and plays from a variety of French-speaking authors. There is a wide range of vocabulary covered in this book as well. Also, it contains biographies for every author in the text.
2. Internet sites: a. http://www.biography.com/ On this website, you can search for biographies about many famous people, including the French authors featured in this textbook. This can replace the biographies featured in the book. b. http://wess.lib.byu.edu/index.php/French_Literature,_Linguistics_%26_Culture#Electronic_texts This website offers links to a variety of websites containing French literature. It is possible to search and find almost any French author or piece of literature. This can replace the literature and readings found in the book. c. http://www.wordreference.com/ This website offers a dictionary for a variety of languages. It is very easy to search and find words and their contexts. This can replace the vocabulary aspect of the text.
3. Reflections: I think that the textbook and the Internet can offer the information from this textbook effectively. The textbook is a little bit easier to learn from, because all of the information is in one place. However, using the Internet is a cost-effective way to teach the material without having to buy the text. A class can definitely be taught effectively just from using the Internet.
More information: the dimensions are 9.3 x 6.5 x 1.1 inches, weight is 2.1 pounds, Upper level Spanish book
1. Description: includes authors from the Colonial period to the present and incorporates some of the most influential writers in Spanish America. Readers are provided with necessary background information and context to study, analyze, and evaluate literary works.
2. Related and Replacement Websites: http://www.kbears.com/namerica.html: This website includes an interactive map of all the continents and countries of the world. If you scroll over the country of Peru for example, a new link appears with facts, such as the capital, area of the country, government, language, and currency. This information is great for learning the background of an author of a text. http://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/story.php?title=Voces-de-Hispanoamerica-3rd-ed: This website allows the user to make flashcards that coincide with the texts and authors in the book. This is a great tool because many people use flashcards as a study tool. The online flashcards create less of a hassle because the user does not have to write out the flashcards and can create their own set to accommodate the information they need to study. http://www.wordreference.com/: Word Reference allows the user to type in a Spanish word they want to translate to English for better understanding. This website not only translates the word, but gives a brief definition for comprehension. The user can translate the word back into Spanish for a usable definition that contributes to class discussion.
3. Reflection: The best website I found and the most relevant is the interactive map. This map is great for learning quick facts about a country. If you need this information for research it is easy to access and use. Finding a map online is very cost-effective for a teacher because you do not have to buy one for the class or worry about handing out materials for the students to lose over time.

3.Pro: Textbook has a more simple layout and you are able to look at one certain spot. With technology it can be more interactive and you have more options. It is easier to differentiate learning.
Con: With the textbook there is only so much you can do with it and if a student is not comprehending the material they are not able to get additional help. With technology you have to research the credibility of each website to make sure you are getting the correct information. Students are also able to get off topic without supervision.

3. Reflection and Thoughts: I think that the information in these websites are very helpful and will help the student to learn about the culture of Spanish speaking countries. The students will really enjoy watching the videos and pictures of different cities. Perhaps the website that contains Spanish grammar lessons might be overwhelming but it is really helpful. I think the self-checking exercises can help the student to assess how much they are learning in class.

What the Allez, viens! is about: A French 1 book from the alphabet to the subjunctive.
Pros of the Book: In my opinion it would be better to work in the book during class time. It would be very hard for a class to all have a computer to work with websites or find time to go to the computer lab.
Pros for the Internet: With the internet, there are so many more options with learning. It could be more interactive to work with websites because they can have the ability to listen and speak into a microphone. These websites I chose all would help with grammar and this is one of the most difficult aspects of learning a foreign language.
